A pain that is classified as the most severe pain, but does not takes one’s life, is none other than low back pain. A recent study seems to have find the solution to the problem, which affects 85% Americans and cost mind boggling $100 billion to the US economy.
The research published in the International Journal of Spine Surgery has revealed that artificial spinal disc can be a solution to the problem. The research was taken out by a group of Brigham Young University researchers.
One of the three researchers of the study Anton Bowden explained about artificial spine that it provides natural movement and helps in restoring the function of healthy spine. “To mimic the response of the spine is very difficult because of the constrained space and the sophistication of the spine and its parts”, said BYU engineering professor Larry Howell.
In order to test the design of artificial spinal, the study researchers put it into the dead bodies. They noticed that their hypothesis has turned to be true and their study is quite promising. The disc has been able to get license from the Utah-based Crocker Spinal Technologies, which mean that they will be able to start international sales by 2013.
