Gauteng Frees itself From Rabies Outbreak

In a recent report, it has been made clear that the outbreak of rabies in Gauteng in now contained within safe limits. There had been rising concerns after it was reported that three people have been bitten by a dog that might have the lethal disease.

“Since the 11 cases were confirmed last September, we've successfully brought it under control because no case has been reported except the imported ones”, said Agriculture, Rural and Social Development, chief director veterinary services, Dr. Malcom de Bude , while claiming that they have managed to get rid of the scar of rabies.

It was also told that the puppy was brought in the region by a family here and later, the puppy became sick. Later on the puppy died after the puppy became highly aggressive, and started biting the fence of the home and subsequently, faced diarrhoea and vomiting. Though the puppy was checked at Chartwell Veterinary Clinic, on June 3, things went further bad and the puppy was identified with neurological signs of incoordination, depression and scratching of the head. The dog had rabies, as per the laboratory tests conducted on the puppy after death.

There is need for people to avoid coming into contact with such stray dogs which might put lives of many into danger.
