Investigation Into Hepatitis C Outbreak

Investigation Into Hepatitis C Outbreak

A report has revealed recently that concerning the outbreak of hepatitis C virus, New Hampshire police has carried out an investigation at a Hospital in Exeter so as to discover the source.

Hepatitis C is a liver ailment that is communicable and worst conditions of which can cause one to develop cancer or cirrhosis.

It has been found that the outbreak that was first discovered this year on May 31, has affected a total of 20 people who had visited a cardiac laboratory at the hospital till now.

Also, the same causes nearly 85% people to develop a chronic infection with 4 million to have a severe disease each year, the National Institutes of Health has told.

As per the findings, cardiac catheterization is performed in the lab, in which a thin tube is inserted through arteries to the heart. The procedure allows GPs to determine if there are any blockages risking the patient of a heart attack.

The team of investigators suspects the source to be a practice dubbed drug diversion. In the process, a doctor first injects himself with the medication meant for patients and following the same, the used syringe is injected into the patient’s body.

“Negligent supervision is really what it is, not keeping eye on things”, says attorney Peter McGrath.
