Stressed Grasshoppers Can Badly Affect Environment

While it’s believed that humans are somehow responsible for current state of environment, a recent research shed light on how fear gripped grasshoppers can affect the actual productivity of soil. It has been claimed by a team of researchers from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Yale University.

It is believed that grasshoppers under stress or fear would lose their actual tendency of consuming nitrogen-rich plants and gorge on carbohydrate-rich plants. It is somehow similar to how humans deal with stress as they start gorging on sweets to de-stress themselves.

It is believed that it is this unexpected behavior that grasshoppers face chemical changes, thereby impacting the ecosystem. Even after the death of such grasshoppers, the nitrogen-saturated body would affect the microbes on the earth. , "With less nitrogen available, the microbes will be decomposing the hard-to-break-down plant materials in the soil at a slower rate”, said the AlphaGalileo Foundation.

It was further claimed by Dr. Dror Halwena of the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior at the Alexander Silberman Institute of Life Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, that there is need to know a lot more about the factors which some or the other way affecting ecosystem in general.
