NASA Sees Asteroid of City Block Size

On Thursday June 14, an asteroid of almost the size of a city block, zipped by Earth, as per a recent report. Discovered on June 10-11 during night time, it astonished astronomers watching it with its size and speed.

Astronomers from NASA watched the nearly 1,650 feet 2012 LZ1 asteroid zooming by the planet via their online skywatching service dubbed the Slooh Space camera.

The report has found that the camera had a telescope named the Uppsala Schmidt, which was fixed at Siding Spring Observatory in Australia to observe the near-Earth asteroid. It had started to fly by nearly around 5pm PDT.

However, a total of around 9,000 near-Earth asteroids have been seen by astronomers previously also, they are anticipating the arrival of many more in coming days.

The team has been concerning that the same could prove extremely hazardous as it was too big in size and was too near the planet as well.

It is being said that the size should be normally 500 feet wide and the minimum distance ought to be not more than 4.65 million miles from Earth.

NASA has affirmed that people can view the asteroid online on the website of Slooh i.e. http:// events. slooh. com/.
