Bulgaria's Findings Confirmed by DNA Tests

Researchers from the University of Copenhagen have tested the DNA of the bones of John the Baptist, originally found by Bulgaria, and are claiming that its findings are true, as per a recent report.

It has been found that Bulgaria had found six bones and was insisting the same were of John the Baptist. While earlier the findings were not being believed, the genetic code analysis by the team has given it a strong indication that these belong to the same person who baptized Jesus.

The leftovers found by Bulgaria in the shell of the Sveti Ivan island’s medieval church include a piece of cranium and a molar. The island also named Saint John is located off Black Sea coast near the resort of Sozopol in Bulgaria.

However, the legitimacy of the discovery has not been yet confirmed, but the bones now kept in Sozopol’s church have seen a large number of worshippers coming to view them.

The report finds that the True Cross’s relics of saints have always been an attraction for tourists. And Europe already has these as many as thousands in number. “The monastery of Sveti Ivan may well have received a portion of relics as a gift from a patron, a member of Constantinople's elite”, said Oxford archaeologist Georges Kazan.
