ICANN Struck With Privacy Breach

There has been a lot of buzz going on in the cyberspace. Few days ago, there was a revolution in the internet industry, which IPv4 getting bumped to IPv6. Later, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced that it would be issuing new domain addresses to rival “.com” which would be personalized based on the company that bids for it.

Some of the proposals included “.google” by Google, “.lol”, “.apple” by Apple and so on. After revealing nearly 2,000 proposals for the new Internet suffixes, there was a speed bump that the organization had to face in the form of privacy breach.

The organization made a mistake by publishing the postal addresses of some of the individuals on its website. After realizing this mistake, it briefly suspended the access to its documents on its website. These documents were supposed to be private but somehow, were viewable by public. The company is saying that the disclosure was limited and was rectified very soon. This is one of the largest expansions of the internet since 1980 and was much needed due to the explosion in the cyber users with the number of people going online and websites coming up.
