Torvald slams NVIDIA for lack of support for Linux

The single worst company that the Linux Foundation has ever dealt with is NVIDIA, open source guru Linus Torvalds said.

Speaking at a forum hosted by Aalto Center for Entrepreneurship in Otaniemi, Finland, Torvalds – well known for the Linux Kernel – slammed NVIDIA for their lack of drivers or support.

He said it was really miserable when hardware sellers using Linux feel really difficult about it.

Speaking on the topic, Torvalds said, “I’m happy to be publicly point out that NVIDIA has been one of the worst trouble spot we’ve had with hardware manufacturers. Nvidia has been the single worst company we’ve ever dealt with.”

However, he further added that other companies are not perfect either. He clarified that there were so many companies that just do not care.

Torvalds, the main force behind the Linux Kernel, has a history of speaking his mind. But, NVIDIA is not obligated to support Linux, in the context that Torvalds is talking about, if NVIDIA believes Linux is not worth devoting resources to.

Santa Clara, Calif.-based NVIDIA, which joined the Linux Foundation in March this year, is one of the biggest graphics chip suppliers in the world.
