A recent report reveals that a woman, 29, tested positive for HIV has undergone blood tests over the last weekend after she grew extra-large breasts with drugs for the infection.
It has been found that the woman was taking antiretroviral (ARV) medication, which as its side-effect, caused her to develop lipodystrophy. It is a condition that causes patient to lose a large amount of fat from one part and redistribute the same in other parts of the body.
The woman, being treated at the Charlotte Maxeke hospital in Johannesburg, has affirmed that the medication caused her to grow breasts of enormously large size.
The tests have been conducted to find out the best treatment she should further go for, he report says. It is being said that the test results would reveal if a surgery is required by her.
As per the findings, the side-effects of the medication lead a woman to undergo a surgery for getting her breasts cut.
Concerning the same, Gauteng Health MEC Ntombi Mekgwe has been recommending that no one should go for the ARV treatment as it puts at a risk of lipodystrophy.
"We only pray one day that we will find a cure", Mekgwe added on being asked about the HIV issue.
