It has been uncovered in a new report that where antibiotics are being less prescribed by physicians, the medications being recommended for ADHD are on a significant rise.
The study lately published in the journal Pediatrics has shown that prescription trends are on a change and with a good picture to be seen, a corresponding bad view also exists.
An investigation was carried out by the US Food and Drug Administration, which included analysis of large outpatient data bases so as to have a look at drug recommendations for children and adults.
The review led the agency officials to find out that while on the one hand, the decrease in the number of antibiotics suggested by physicians was a positive aspect. It is being said that the use of other strategies to cure infections would help in reduction in bacterial resistance.
There is a 7% reduction in prescriptions of allergy or pain-killing drugs for kids from 2002, the report finds.
The notable rise in ADHD medications is a thing of huge concern, on the contrary. As per the team's say, the increase either means that more count of children has been contracting the condition; or it points towards frequent diagnosis of the illness.
