NASA’s Spacecraft Captures ‘Mickey Mouse’ on Mercury

It has been found through a recent report that Messenger of NASA, which was orbiting Mercury since March last year, has shown an astonishing image of ‘Mickey Mouse’.

The messenger is the first spacecraft to orbit Mercury, says the report. Although, it was initially difficult to create such a spacecraft that gather such images despite the planet’s proximity to the sun and slow rotation.

"We had to come up with a system that would be able to capture the required observations of the planet, maintain thermal safety requirements and not jeopardize the safety of the spacecraft”, said Ed Hawkins, mission engineer.

However, it has proved to be extremely useful for the agency and has captured over 100,000 images since its orbit to the sun’s closest planet.

Also, varied information has been gathered by NASA on Mercury’s topography with the help of the spaceship. Messenger has revealed about the core structure of the planet and deposits at its poles.

It has but this time discovered a beautiful formation of craters that resembles the Disney’s iconic cartoon mouse. Regardless that the same has been found only because of the direction of projection, say the agency officials.

The team says that a big crater was topped by two small impacts that together simply shadowed the Mickey Mouse.
