A three-year old has proved more than doctors thought she could have. Doctors had lost their hopes that the South African girl, Isabella Pippie Kruger would survive after she was critically injured on New Year eve.
It has been reported that the girl suffered burns over 80% of her body, after a container containing an explosive liquid exploded at her home in Johannesburg.
However, recently the girl has undergone a skin graft, for which, skin was specially imported from the USA. It has been recovered that 41 pieces of skin were imported and implanted onto her different body parts, including her back, face, chest, arms and legs.
Moreover, a part of new skin used in this procedure was developed at a laboratory in Boston, Massachusetts, in which cells were taken from the body of the little girl itself.
Dr. Ridwan Mia, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who performed the surgery on Pippie in a Johannesburg hospital asserted that the operation went successful and they didn't even face any major complication.
Dr. Mia said, "He did not hold out much hope for the toddler's survival when he first met her in January. She had swelled to three times her size from her injuries". Since January, this little girl has been struggling with life.
