Latest fashion trend that says video games are cool, but not outdoor activities is a leading cause of obesity among children of eight to 10 years old. A recent study being taken out by a group of researchers from the Newcastle and Strathclyde universities has revealed that children should be encourage playing outdoor sports.

The research has found that in comparison to boys, girls are lazier. "One of the important things is that most girls don't see sport as cool. We need to be tackling these issues earlier by encouraging girls to exercise ", said study researchers.

It has also been revealed that children remain active for 20 minutes a day and adorn sedentary lifestyle. Health experts recommend that children should remain active for one hour at least, and then only they can get freedom from obesity.

However, it seems that they are keen to follow the advice. Lead researcher Dr. Mark Pearce, from Newcastle University, was of the view that parents also play a big role in encouraging their children to remain active.

Professor John Reilly, who was also involved in the research, said that there is a need to inform children about ill effects of being sedentary.
