Merck Blamed for using Animated Characters on Anti-Allergy drug

Merck, a drug company has been blamed for using animated characters of movie named as “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” to attract children towards their anti-allergy drug.

The Public Health Advocacy Institute and 10 other consumer groups have filed the complaint with the Public Health Advocacy Institute and wants that the latter should take strict actions against the drug firm.

“The number of children’s food products featuring Madagascar-licensed products creates a very real danger of product confusion”, read the complaint. Kelley Dougherty, who is a spokeswoman for Merck, was of the view that they do not by any chance want to harm children.

They had different concepts in their minds and wanted to reach parents, who could use their product seeing Claritin on the product. The compliant registrars are not affected with the statement being given by Kelley.

They were of the view that the company has breached one of the laws of the FDA and should be penalized for the same. The law states that no medicinal product should adorn cartoon characters by which children get attracted towards the product.

Cara Wilking, who is from the Public Health Advocacy Institute, was of the view that it will be a lesson for the drug companies not to target children for such products.
