In the wake of rising scar of AIDS in Zambia, there would be funds of as much as $100 million injected. It was made possible by the Global Fund, which has made it clear the same. “After a dry spell of funding... owing to concerns on management of some HIV/AIDS programmes, Zambia has successfully secured a $100 million (79 million euro) grant from the fund”, confirmed Health Minister Joseph Kasonde.
It has been claimed that the financial support would run for some three years so that the scar of AIDS can be combated. As of now, some 14% of the population there is dealing with the disease, and that’s what calls for more and more of such efforts to be made in future too.
It is know that due to missing funds last year, there had been decision taken to scrap funding to the Ministry of Health. It is believed that this decision was only taken after steps were taken to assure complete accountability of donor funds. With the approval of funds, it is expected that the situation would improve a lot in the time to come.
It is indeed a generous gesture from the Global Fund which is supporting the country at this tough time. It would be worth seeing how these funds are being used for the contentious issue in hand.
