In a recent released report by 2012 Happy Planet Index, it has been found that South Africa has managed to get the rank of 142 out of 151 countries. While South Africa could not manage to get some decent position, Costa Rice once again was declared as the happiest.
It was found in the report that South Africa managed to get 52.8 on life expectancy, 4.7 on wellbeing, 2.6 on ecological footprint with its index score at 28.2.
Second position was bagged by Vietman followed by Columbia at third. However, Chad and Botswana stood at 150 and 151 respectively. "The index measures what really matters – long and happy lives now and the potential for good lives in the future”, said creator of the index from New Economics Foundation, Nic Marks. It is believed that this report has tracked the performance not just on economic activity, but also on general parameters.
While the report is certainly disappointing for South Africans, it is believed that the prevalent poverty in the country is one of the major reasons of pushing the country to this extent. There are already some many concerns in the country, be it education, health, security etc, but there is dire need to inject funds for the country before it becomes all the more difficult to stay there.
