It is being said in a new study that it was not only primates that were closely related to humans in some ways, but elephants and other species like dolphins are our distant relatives, as per a recent report.

Lori Marino, a neuroscientist and his team at the Emory University have revealed strange facts about brain powers of dolphins and dogs as well as elephants.

The team says that dogs can understand human communication very well. To cite an example, Brian Hare, Duke University researcher, says that dogs easily get o know what a person’s hand is pointing him to do. He is to launch a book too, named “The Genius of Dogs”.

Further, describing about dolphins, researchers say that it would be astonishing to learn that dolphins-like mammals have the ability of reasoning as well as have a conscious thought.

While they have a completely different wiring as that in primates such as the neocortex, their capability is not so different. Their attributes like intelligence, communications and social behavior are as influential as primates, which suggest they shared a common ancestor with humans around some 95 million years back.

“The fact is that they are so different from us and so much like us at the same time”, says the team.
