Grave of 52 people Uncovered by East Timor’s Authorities

It has been reported that police authorities of East Timor with the help of construction workers have covered mass grave of 52 deceased near the government houses. In 1975, Portuguese colony was invaded by Indonesia.

At the time of invasion about 183,000 people were killed. The discovery of the mass grave indicates that at the time of invasion, the invaders might have killed these people. However, investigation over the new discovered graves highlights that the bones are too long for Timorese.

The authorities have contacted Australian experts who are expected to arrive in July. Till then, no investigation would take place by the police authorities of Timor. Damien Kingsbury, an Australian Professor is of the view that the bones could be of Chinese if they are not of Timorese.

Damien Kingsbury was reported saying, “The Chinese were still in Timor when the Indonesians invaded in 1975 and they were one of the primary targets of the Indonesian military at that time”. It is too early to say as to who buried those bodies. It is hoped that the future investigation would uncover the mysteries attached to the mass grave. The authorities of Timor have to wait for the expert team to know the history about the 52 buried people.
