Obesity Hits in Adolescence, say Researchers

A study from Melbourne researchers is warning children turning adolescents to be extra cautious from obesity as their findings have noticed that the problem starts severely biting in adolescence stage.

A research was recently carried out by Melbourne's Murdoch Children’s Research Institute over approx 16,000 Australian children, all aged between 2-18 years. Though they noticed underweight young children requiring special healthcare needs, the problems were soon cited shifting to overweighing conditions and obesity problems in individuals in adolescence.

Researchers are claiming to have found evidences showing obesity causing fewer health problems in toddlers but growing severe in adolescence.

Initially experts did not find any physical health problems or such symptoms in obese or overweight toddlers but same problems started appearing soon they turned six or seven, revealed the study published on Wednesday in the International Journal of Obesity.

Clearing the findings of the research, Lead researcher Professor Ms. Melissa Wake said that obesity should be considered as a bigger risk factor in young primary school children and so efforts should be made to make them safe from getting affected from obesity while they step adolescence.

"What that tells us is that we do have quite a number of years in which to intervene to reverse that high weight," Prof Wake told AAP.
