Detailed Airborne Soot Pictures acquired

The U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) is the first department till date, which has got pictures of airborne soot particles. It is not that pictures were not available, but there were no detailed pictures of the airborne soot.

Airborne soot particles are counted among the chief contributors of the global warming and also said to cause health complications among people. The detailed structure has revealed about intricate nanostructures that can narrate an entire story about atmospheric processes, which further causes climate change.

The study, which has found a place in Nature, was being carried out by Duane Loh, who is a postdoctoral scholar with and Stanford University. Loh was of the view that the recent discovery will let them know about other particles as well.

“Our study shows that LCLS can drive a paradigm shift in imaging airborne particles, allowing us to look at them one at a time instead of using a composite”, said Loh. He further affirmed that they have released an animated picture as well which will reveal about detailed airborne soot particles.

It has been further revealed that soot particles would have been denser than being shown in the animated picture. This reveals about the complex nature of the soot.
