Novel Drug to Treat Over Active Bladder Problem

Novel Drug to Treat Over Active Bladder Problem

About 33 million Americans suffer from overactive bladder. However, there are chances that things will get a lot easier for them, as the FDA has given green signal to a drug known as Myrbetriq to treat the problem.

The pill needs to be taken once a day and will make sure that the bladder contracts at right time, so that a person suffering from the disease does not have to face any awkward situation. Victoria Kusiak, from the FDA, was of the view that the novel drug will give a new option for the treatment of overactive bladder situation.

Experts were of the view that the drug was a kind of relief for patients, as all the available drugs are either not working on them or they have many side effects. In that scenario, the novel drug gives an easy option to patients.

"Clearly, we have a huge need in this area, as evidenced by the fact that so many companies are marketing what is essentially the same drug”, said Elizabeth Kavaler, who is a urologist with Lenox Hill Hospital, which is in New York City.

The drug has been put up for sales in Japan, and its trial in Europe and the US has also received positive response.
