A recent study shed light on the long-term effects of low-carbohydrate, high-protein diets and claimed that it can actually instigate heart disease risk. It has been claimed by a team from the University of Athens Medical School and other institutions from the US, Scandinavia and Europe after they examined the data collected as part of the Swedish Women’s Lifestyle and Health Cohort, which was based on the lifestyle factors women aged 30 to 49 adopt.
The team made it clear that “low-carbohydrate, high-protein diets, used on a regular basis and without consideration of the nature of carbohydrates or the source of proteins, are associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease”.
However, there are some shortcomings too. It was claimed that diet of women’s were noted just once and that too in the beginning. There are even questions being raised on the reliability of the results as women reported their dietary intake, which cannot be trusted. Moreover, these results cannot be applied to men as this research was based on women’s lifestyle. There is need to extend the research further so that a lot more is being made known about the same, which might be able to unveil some useful life-saving tips for one and all.
