Orion Spacecraft to Go in 2014

It has been found in a new report that NASA would be sending its Orion spacecraft for its first test flight in 2014 and the same would enable astronauts to travel more distance in the space than ever covered before.

As per the findings, the spacecraft to be launched atop NASA’s space rocket Space Launch System (SLS) next on plan would fly on Exploration Flight Test 1 (EFT-1). The SLS has however been planned to experience its first flight test in 2017.

“Our designers and machinists are hard at work, fabricating the large aluminum rings needed to support the test flight, and we will deliver this hardware ahead of schedule”, NASA’s SLS Program’s spacecraft and payload integration manager David Beaman said.

It is being said that the SLS would be powering Orion on almost all destinations, including space missions, the moon, Mars and asteroids. The Delta IV rocket, which is handled by United Launch Alliance from the Kennedy Space Center, FL of NASA, would help the spacecraft to cover some 3,000 miles.

While previous spacecrafts have reached up to the International Space Station successfully, the distance to be travelled this time is almost 15 times more than that, the report finds.
