Third of Parents Don’t Do Weight Talk with Their Affected Children

Problems of overweight and obesity are increasing in children but despite the growing figures, fewer parents think talking and discussing the weight talk with their affected children is correct.

In a study recently ran by researchers of the social enterprise Mend and the online community Netmums, it was found that a third of parents are willing to not talk to their children regarding their overweight issue as they fear their discussion could end up with a wrong impact over their children.

In the findings, researchers mentioned that the discussion over the topic can hurt the self-esteem of their children and it can further trigger the eating disorders thus third of parents prefer to remain quite upon the issue.

Though 65% parents are aware of their child's overweight problem, the number of ones, who discuss the issue with their children, is very less. This further is contributing severely to the widening obese society, warns a health group.

In an effort to celebrate the national childhood obesity week, the above survey was run but the findings really depressed the concerned authorities and officials.

Mr. Paul Sacher, Mend's co-founder and chief research and development officer, said: "The easiest way to check if your child is a healthy weight or not is to measure their weight and height and then to use an online BMI calculator".
