In a recent statement, pharmaceuticals’ king GlaxoSmithKline has revealed that results of their final stage trials for their drug to treat smoker’s cough are out and the drug has been proposed to be potential enough to improve the condition of the patients.
The pharma said, “The results for LAMA/LABA for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) support the likelihood of filing for final regulatory approval by the end of the year”.
It has been explained that COPD or smoker’s cough is a pair of commonly co-existing diseases of the lungs in which the airways become narrowed. This leads to a limitation of the flow of air to and from the lungs, causing shortness of breath.
It has been reported that during the last stage of the trials of the drug, 4000 patients were involved. It has been recovered that during all the four stages of the trails, the combination drug was able to deliver significant results.
However, it has been concerned that there are a few side-effects associated, including headache, common cold, infection in upper respiratory track, cough, and pain in the throat and also in the back. However, GSK and its US partner Theravance affirmed that on the basis of the results, they will find maintenance treatment.
