It has been unveiled in a recent report that Australians have been showing huge carelessness in regard to their health as minimum number of people has got vaccinations against the deadly pneumonia.
A survey conducted by a team of researchers from the University of WA has uncovered that while people under the age of 65 years in Australia are at an increased risk of getting the infection, they are now aware about the importance of getting a vaccination to prevent the same.
The study showed an astonishing fact that even if higher rate of risks was found in elderly people, a majority of all had got the required vaccine so as to stop the virus from spreading. Nearly 78% had ensured safety on their part by receiving a pneumococcal vaccination.
Pneumonia is an infection that tends to affect thousands of people each year, while killing almost 2,300 people amongst them. Also, lacking any particular medication to treat the same, health experts recommend people to receive the available vaccination at the least so that the only possible way to prevent the disease is not left useless.
The team has told that people with diabetes and chronic heart disease and even smokers at the highest risks and thus, they need to be more alert.
