Florida Reports Second Highest Bald Eagle Population

In a recent report, it has been confirmed that population of Bald Eagle in increasing in Florida and it makes it all the more special as on July 4, the national bird is being remembered. It was in the year 1972 that the bird was picked as the national bird, which, as per David Hitzig of Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter, was not treated well.

It is believed that use of chemical compound DDT in near vicinities affected the eagle badly, though regulations later stabilized the situation. After Alaska, it’s Florida which has managed to have the highest population of the bird.

It has further been claimed by Hitzig that it’s the perfect environment of wetlands that makes them all the more comfortable to stay and even their well protected nesting areas make it more preferable place to live in. “Their resiliency to hang on to the nesting territory they’ve established and their tenacity to expand into the peripheral areas of existing range has really surprised us”, said PGC Wildlife Diversity Division Biologist Patti Barber.

With bald eagles making a remarkable recovery in Florida, it becomes all the more important that the precious breed is being taken care of well.
