Greg Combat, who is the minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, was quite concerned to know that gas companies, which supply the facility to air conditioners and refrigerators, have been raising the price of gas regardless of rise in the prices of carbon.

He has noticed that there have been many instances where whole sale suppliers have raised prices together and that collective rise is even more shocking. However, on the other side, the wholesalers were of the view that they have raised prices due to the rise in carbon tax.

Combat said that it would be wrong to cite the reason for rise in prices as tax. It is quite evident that rise in tax is not at all matching the rise in prices of gas. He further affirmed that he knows companies, which have been taking out benefit from the opportunity.

One such company is Heatcraft, which is a Sydney based company. Combet was of the view that they have been doing wrong and it is not that the authorities concerned do not know their move.

"It's $23 a tonne now. (But) under the government's own figures it will be $37 a tonne in 2020 and, would you believe it, $350 a tonne in 2050", said Tony Abbott, who is opposition leader.
