Fathers’ DNA Not To Be Sequenced For Fetus Genome Sequencing

It has been proposed that it won’t be long when sequencing of genome of an unborn baby could be done before its birth to administer whether it is carrying any genetic defect or not. Findings of several studies in the context have confirmed that this could be done by analyzing small portions of DNA that move freely in blood plasma of the pregnant woman.

However, a recent study published in journal Nature has tried to elaborate the process and also highlighted a few more advancement in the technology.

Previous findings suggest that initially, for sequencing of the fetus samples of DNA were obtained from three different places, including mother-to be’s blood cells, her blood plasma and cells from saliva of father to be.

However, author of the study notified: “Sampling the man’s DNA is a particularly delicate issue, since the incidence of non-paternity is estimated to be between 3% and 10%”.

Hence, senior author of new study, Stephen R. Quake and colleagues at Stanford University did not carry out the sampling of the man’s saliva.

After analysis, authors were able to conclude which of the part of mother was taken up by the fetus and they could also infer the father’s genome by recognizing those particles which were not picked from the mother’s genome.

World’s Smallest Droplet Created by Physicists in Lab of Switzerland

As per a new release, Physicists in Switzerland claim to have created the smallest of drops of liquid. The scientists believe that the droplets would be able to lead to the further understanding of collective behavior. The short-lived droplet is equivalent to 100,000th the size of a hydrogen atom and about the size of three to five protons....
