A recent report has uncovered that TB cases showing resistance to all standard antibiotics have been on a significant rise in the UK since past one year.
Though, an overall control on the number of cases of the disease each year has been realized since 2005. Since, only up to 9000 diagnoses are now noted each year. The increase noted in the previous year alone has raised concerns amongst a team of health experts investigating into the matter.
According to a survey conducted by the Health Protection Agency, the figures for TB cases are up by 26% as compared to 8,410 cases in 2010. Also, almost 431 out of all have been found as laboratory confirmed cases.
The data is to be presented at a conference to be held next week by Imperial College London’s International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease.
It has been told that a disease often acts as resistant to a drug when it carries a drug resistant strain, which develops either due to incomplete treatment or transferred through another patient.
Thus, the health chiefs have been taking to curb the spread of the illness as a challenge this year, the report finds, even if the count of people on the way of their treatment completion is also on the rise.
