NI Celebrates National Transplant Awareness Week

Northern Ireland is celebrating National Transplant Awareness Week from July 9 to August 15, 2012. On the wake of the event, the NI officials have been asking people to support the event.

One of the novel things being introduced in this year’s transplant week is inclusion of a theme. This year’s theme is ‘Pass it On’, which means encouraging more number of people to sign register for organ transplant.

Dr Eddie Rooney, who is the head of the PHA, said that he started the theme’s real message with himself and has signed the register. He further affirmed that he has also asked his friends and family to get registered with the NHS organ donor register.

“The PHA is asking people to reduce the waiting times for a transplant by helping to make sure more organs are available by signing up”, said Rooney. He further affirmed that it is a common psyche that friends and family members agree to sign the organ donor register, if one of the family members is registered with the register.

It is very important that people should unite and register their names, as major effect can only be seen when more number of people will register themselves.
