After comparing five Asian countries, the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) as well as Prudential, an insurance company, has accredited Singapore to be the country, where people take great care of their families.
General questions were asked from people across the five countries. One of the questions was responsibility of elderly. Some of them said that care homes are the best, while others affirmed that it is the responsibility of respective government to provide quality care to elderly.
However, people living in Singapore were of the view that it is their duty to take care of their elderly, after they retire from work. Result of the survey has been recently revealed, and some of the people living in China and Hong Kong have also said that elderly should not seek dependence on others, and should rely on their savings.
Richard Jackson, who is the director of CSIS, said that after coming across the results, he would like to pass on word of caution to people that they should not rely on children for after-retirement care.
"You have to save massively to keep pace with your income and the cost of living. That's compounded by relatively low rates of returns on savings", further affirmed Jackson.
