As per a research being taken out by a group of researchers from the Imperial College London and also being supported by the National Audit Office, it has been revealed that people are more likely to lose their life, if they fall sick on weekends.
The study being led by William Palmer is based on the assessment of patients, who were admitted in hospital from April 2009 to March 2010. In total, the study researchers examined 100,000 patients.
The study, which has also find a place in the Archives of Neurology, revealed that services on weekends get reduced, like percentage of brain scans on weekdays was 47.6%. However, on weekends, the percentage gets reduced to 43.1%.
In addition, it has also been revealed that mortality for some reasons get increased during weekends, but reduced in week days. “We calculated that approximately 350 potentially avoidable in-hospital deaths occur within seven days each year”, said Palmer.
The study researchers said that there is a solution available for the problem, and that is to restrict strike services at limited hospitals across the NHS. This will solve two purposes, the first one being that people will get specialized services and there will be fewer deaths at any point of time.
