Genome of Banana Found

When it comes to the popularity of fruits, Banana is one such fruits which are most admired by the people. Recently, a group of international researchers have calmed of having found the genome of banana. It is not for the very first time when genome of a plant has been found.

It took the researchers three years to find the genome of the most popular fruits, banana. The researchers are of the view that the findings would help in the genetic improvement of other plants as well.

The findings of the researchers have been published in the journal, Nature. It is hoped that the findings would help in breeding a healthier banana. A banana researcher, Rony Swennen said that the findings would help small and larger farmers in cultivating healthier plants.

The lead author of the study, Angelique D’Hont said, “You need sterility to produce fruits that can be eaten, but you need fertility to improve the cultivar”. However, further studies are required to be conducted before drawing any conclusion. Although the researchers have been studying banana for past three years, further tests are required to be conducted to make sure that the outcome would prove beneficial for the people.
