Need to Protect the Seals

It has been reported that the California Coastal Commission has agreed upon keeping the rope barrier, which was structured to protect the harbor seals. The Commission has agreed for a period of three years on terms that the condition of the rope would be monitored regularly.

The Commission was appealed by the San Diego, city. The aim of keeping the rope is to prohibit the visitors from harming the seals. Couple of decades ago, the unhealthy practice of visitors at beach severely affected the population of seals.

It has been informed by the animal rights groups that after being harassed by the beachgoers, the seals often abandon their young ones. The rope thus placed on the beach doesn’t restrict people from offending the seals but does discourage them.

An attorney, Bryan Pease was reported saying, “What happens when the rope barrier is not up, is people just keep getting closer and closer. They want to get their picture taken, they want to try petting a seal”.

He further said that the rope although isn’t a concrete solution to the problem, it does helps in preventing the seals. However, there are also some major problems associated with the rope which needs to be addressed.
