Genome Study Says Three Siberian Waves Colonized America

A group of researchers at the Vanderbilt University claims that it was not only one wave of migration that populated America, rather three migrations from Siberia have caused the same, according to a study published lately in the journal Nature.

While a previous research had revealed that North as well as South America got populated heavily because of a single huge migration from Siberia. The study including the examination of whole genomes of Native Americans has found that three different groups from Siberia caused the country to face such a situation.

The study had been carried out on gene chips, which represent a full image of the entire genome. However, previous studies were based on only a small area of the genome such as mitochondrial DNA or the Y chromosome.

At first, Joseph Greenberga had declared on linguistic grounds that most of the North and South Americans spoke Siberia’s first settlers’ single mother tongue Amerind. Following the same, he has now found that some people also spoke Eskimo-Aleut and of Na-Dene language families.

"This is monumental work. What gives this great weight is the enormity of the database and the global approach", says anthropologist Tom Dillehay, a reviewer of North and South America’s early settlement.
