Trials Going On Over Tracking Stephen Hawking’s Mind

There is no second thought on the mental acumen of physicist Stephen Hawking and that’s what has made researchers try out range of experiments to read his mind. He has been suffering from motor neurone disease, which has left him totally paralysed. On the same lines, a device is being tried out which would be able to track down his brain activity so as to understand what he’s saying.

As of now, he’s using an array of cheek twitches to pick words from a screen, though it’s a slow process, as admitted by Philip Low at Stanford University in California, who is the founder of healthcare company NeuroVigil.

It has been claimed by Low that iBrain has the tendency to track down activity of his brain from a single point on the scalp, and further, with the help of an algorithm, the desired information would be extracted.

It was during the initial trial that the team came to know how his hands and feet movement was linked with what his brain was thinking at that time. As of now, the team is aiming to assure Hawking to utilize the imagined movements to make a computer write or speak words. So far, the work has been presented at the Francis Crick Memorial Conference in Cambridge, UK, on 8 July.
