Madagascar’s Lemurs Proposed To be The Most Endangered of All Species

Currently, there are a majority of animals in the world that are somewhere near to become extinct. Of all those Madagascar's lemurs are staggering close to the verge. Findings in a new review have suggested that these primates are actually the most endangered species existing on this Earth today.

The species ahs outpassed all other types, including mammals, reptiles, amphibians, which are also on brink of getting extinct.

Conservation organizations have confirmed at a workshop of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Species Survival Commission in Antanarivo that 91% of the total known lemur species, which is 103, are in danger.

During the conference at the Madagascar's capital, they said, “23 of the species are now considered critically endangered, 52 are endangered and 19 are vulnerable on the IUCN's Red List of Threatened Species”.

The conditions for them have worsened, as when the review was begun in 2005, the statistics obtained included 10% as critically endangered, 21% as endangered and 17% as vulnerable.

Primatologist Christoph Schwitzer, head of research at Bristol Zoo Gardens in the UK, exclaimed that it was shocking to come across the results of the review, which highlighted that the primates are the most endangered of all.
