Hookah is Becoming Common Amidst US College Women, Survey

As per a recent report revealed by Center for Behavioural and Preventive Medicine at the Miriam Hospital, majority of women in the US these days are inclining towards hookah, with their mere cynicism that these are better over cigarettes.

The report has been lately published in the journal of Psychology of Addictive Behaviours, which says that one in every four college-going women are into the habit of hookah or are at risk of the same. And the same is being seen despite the fact that harms of hookah are as well known to them as those by cigarettes or marijuana.

Hookah involves smoking tobacco through a water pipe filtering the same. Available in different flavours, including candy and fruit, this can also lead to respiratory illness, lung cancer or periodontal disease.

It has been found in the survey that where women at alcohol consumption are highly likely to go for the same. Marijuana users often use hookah, which is the production of India and Persia.

Concerning the issue, Research intern Robyn L. Fielder says, “The social nature of hookah and the fact that college freshmen are more likely to experiment with risky behaviour, could set the stage for a potential public health issue”.
