Time to Celebrate 43rd Anniversary of Apollo 11

A recent report sheds light on how lighting at the site where Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon some 43 years ago changed over the course of lunar day, which ran over 2 weeks.

"News out of Colorado is grim, but today's also the anniversary of the first moon landing. Take heart, humanity can do amazing things, too”, said a tweet by John Ryan as 43rd anniversary of the event is being celebrated.

It was further claimed that a team from the NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has managed to unleash an online viewer, which is reported to have shown imagery at different sun angles per each site of the Apollo, encompassing sunrise to sunset. This is not for the first time that such images have been shown as it is from the last three years that such images were presented. However, this time, they managed to present the images with a slider, through which one can actually see how shadows change as the day moves on.

It was further said that this week's "Where in the Cosmos" picture puzzle on the Cosmic Log Facebook page further showed a blurred view of the Apollo 11 site, which is reported to have been captured by LRO just before lunar sunset. As soon as the puzzle caught the attention, the response was huge, and Mike Hardin, Brian McGraw, Wyatt Bates and James Aker managed to get celebratory pairs of 3-D glasses.
