Enjoy an Asteroid Fly this Weekend

All the sky watchers, who can’t miss even a single opportunity to mark what is happening over them in the deep sky, gets another chance to enjoy a sight of an asteroid in the sky. All those, who have never enjoyed such a sighting, can see the things actually happening this weekend.

Astronauts have announced that an asteroid equal to the size of a city block will past the Earth this weekend on Sunday, July 22.

Special arrangements to reach the incidence live to all; a live feed has been arranged by the Slooh Space Camera. Starting from 4:30 p. m., viewers can see the images in the Slooh telescope in the Canary Islands.

Another telescope has also been arranged in Arizona, which will start tracking the asteroid and its movement at around 8 p. m. Pacific (11 Eastern).

Discussion with Astronomy magazine columnist Mr. Bob Berman, Astronomer Mr. Matt Francisco from Prescott Observatory, and their own Mr. Patrick Paolucci has been arranged for to spice up the live show.

Researchers have named the asteroid 2002 AM31. It was discovered almost 10 years ago by Lincoln Near Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR). The asteroid is approx 3,000 feet wide and will pass the Earth at a distance of about
3.2 million miles (roughly 14 times the Earth-moon distance).
