Japan Sends Rocket to Space Station

Japanese have sent one unnamed spaceship into space on Friday with an aim to deliver important supplies to astronauts working at the International Space Station.

Reports are confirming that the sent cargo craft is H-2 Transfer Vehicle-3 (HTV-3), nicknamed Kounotori 3 (Japanese for "White Stork 3"). The rocket was sent from an island launch site i. e. Tanegashima Space Center in southern Japan and will complete its mission in a week’s time.

It aims to deliver vital supplies to astronauts living on the ISS like student science projects, a new camera system, some food and spare equipments too. It lifted atop a Japanese H-2B rocket and left at around 10:06 p. m. ET to complete its mission i. e. at around 11:06 a. m. in Japan on Saturday.

After HTVs 1 and 2 that were sent with similar aims into space in September 2009 and January 2011, Kounotori 3 is the third one to fly. According to astronaut’s calculations and schedules, the spaceship will reach closely to the space station on July 27. It will fly within 40 feet (12 meters) from the space station and there only the astronauts, who are steering the station's Canadarm2 robotic arm, will puck it from the orbit.

Astronauts Joe Acaba of NASA and Aki Hoshide of the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency are controlling the arm.
