With this new discovery of the first software simulation of an entire organism, researchers hope to see computerized laboratories dream come true soon.
Above are the findings of scientists at Stanford University and the J. Craig Venter Institute, who are claiming to have developed the first software simulation of an entire organism, which they say, is a humble single-cell bacterium that lives in the human genital and respiratory tracts.
Scientists are further adding that the discovery has paved a strong path towards the development of computerized laboratories with the help of which, it will become very easy for them to carry out thousands of experiments much faster than today.
Also they are confident that the discovery will soon help them uncover the mysteries of diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s.
“A lot of the public wonders, ‘Why haven’t we cured all these things?’ The answer, of course, is that cancer is not a one-gene problem; it’s a many-thousands-of-factors problem,” said the leader of the new research, Markus W. Covert, an assistant professor of bioengineering at Stanford.
Medical researchers and biochemists believe that the simulation software will speed up the screening processes of new compounds and molecular biologists will be able to get more accurate results regarding new understanding of basic cellular principles.
According to a new study, scientists have unraveled the mystery behind the sensation of itch. The scientists said that neurons that detect itch rely on a newly identified chemical that sends "I need to scratch" message to the brain. The study was conducted on mice.
