Several astronomers from the University of Central Florida have been claiming to have found a new planet in the constellation dubbed Leo the lion, according to a recent report, which is for the first time ever slightly smaller than the planet Earth.
"People have been picking at the low-hanging fruit, since Jupiter-sized planets are easier to see. Now we're really pushing the limits of what our telescopes can find", said lead researcher Kevin Stevenson.
The team has found the new planet, temporarily being called as UCF-1.01, with the use of NASA's Spitzer space telescope, as affirmed by it. Also, it was not an instant discovery, as seems, but was confirmed after a thorough research for one whole year.
Although, above 700 exoplanets have been found in varied researches since 1995, says Stevenson. The world this time is only two thirds of Earth i. e. 5,200 miles athwart, which is covering round a murky red-dwarf star GJ 436.
The study was also published on Thursday in the Astrophysical Journal, which has revealed that the planet is not as good with a temperature beyond 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit as Earth. Also, unlike the Sun for the Earth, UCF-1.01 had a smaller one, however brightening the star, the report concludes.
