Researchers Experiment on Kittens Raises Controversies

During a research, carried out by researchers from Cardiff University, eyes of kittens were sewed, so as to administer the development of brain in case when it was not possible to visualize or see.

It has been reported that the series of experiments has raised controversies, with animal rights campaigners raising concerns over the brutal act.

British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV), which is against the carrying out of testing on animals, has criticized the British researchers and stated that the researchers to study the concept of childhood eye condition could have carried out the experiments on humans.

On the other hand, Cardiff University trying to oppose the criticism stated that they had no other way out to carry the experiments. Moreover, they emphasized: “We followed strict Home Office guidelines to justify the use of cats and ensure minimal suffering. Cats are used in eye research because they have eyes like humans, and are born with poor vision”.

Further, they asserted that the experiments were necessary to take into consideration the working of the brain and how the brain cells created a link with eyes after birth. They further explained that if such a condition is administered during the early ages, then it can lead to amblyopia.
