Life Technologies Registers for Archon X Prize

It has been revealed in a recent report that Life Technologies from California has become the first company to apply for the second Archon X Prize worth $10 million, which was first announced sometime in 2006.

The report finds that the biotech group promises to build the first ever across the whole world medical grade human genome by sequencing the DNA of almost 100 centenarians, those who live up to nearly 100 years.

Also, however, according to the X Prize Foundation, the registrations would remain open until May 2013 for anyone wishing to participate. The company with its claim to perform the same in 10 days as per the criteria has given its name almost with the announcement of the competition.

The contest was declared just four days following the discovery of an entire organism’s full computer simulation by Stanford and Venter Institute scientists, says the report. The organism is sexually transmitted disease-causing bacterium.

It is further being said that the development to be shown by the Life Technologies team would be an enhancement over the complete human genome announced in the year 2003. “Ten thousand will let you say, Hey, these are the genes involved in cancer or heart disease”, said Dr. Jonathan Rothberg from the group.
