As per reported information by Lanarkshire health authority, it has been revealed that a case of anthrax has been confirmed. NHS Lanarkshire, which has been handling the case, said that the person, who has contacted the information, is a drug user.

Doctors were of the view that the patient must have contacted the disease from contaminated dose of heroin. The patient is said to be in a critical condition. Experts informed that anthrax is quite a dangerous bacterial infection, which commonly occurs among animals and that among cattle, sheep and goats.

The disease gets passed among humans when they swallow or inhale the anthrax spores. However, it shall be noted that the disease is not communicable in nature. Some of its peculiar symptoms are blisters, which later gets black and there are chances that one might also suffer from blood poisoning.

David Cromie, who is the consultant with NHS Lanarkshire, said, "Smoking heroin carries much less risk than injecting it. If there is any pain or swelling around an injection site drug users should seek urgent medical attention".

The patient has taken the drug in the form of injection. It is not the first case, as lot many similar cases, have been registered in Europe.
