Recent reports have proposed that Switzerland has permitted prenatal testing for Down's syndrome. It has been reported that the decision of introducing the much in controversies test, was made by national agency for therapeutic products, Swissmedic.
Detailed reports regarding the tests suggest that the test has been specifically designed by life science specialists LifeCodexx to administer the presence of Down's syndrome in the mother’s fetus itself. During the test, the blood samples of the pregnant woman will be screened to determine whether the unborn baby is suffering from the condition or not.
The German based company has announced that the tests will be available in the name of PrenaTest by mid-August. Moreover, they have assured that the tests are more convenient to perform than their counterparts. Rather, even the risk factors associated with it are far less than that with other techniques like amniocentesis.
The company asserted that Swiss mothers and also the doctors are in great needs of such tests, which are safer than their previous methods.
These tests will also be marketed in Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein. International federation of Down's syndrome organizations said, “Strasbourg court must recognize the human condition and protect the right to life of people with Down's syndrome and those handicapped”.
