Wake Up Call For Obese Children!

Wake Up Call For Obese Children!

While there is no doubt that obesity can instigate the risk of cardiovascular diseases or ‘CVD’, it has been yet again proved by a research that some 66% obese children are likely to face heart diseases later in their life. It was claimed by researchers from VU University Medical Centre, Amsterdam, and other institutions in The Netherlands that some 62% below the age of 12 showed signs of CVD.

The observational surveillance study was published in the peer-reviewed journal Archives of Disease in Childhood. It is believed that results from the research would be able to pave ways for some sort of resolution for the scar of obesity.

For the research, information from the Dutch Paediatric Surveillance Unit from 2005 to 2007 was examined, and then questionnaires were made to be filled by Paediatricians. “The prevalence of impaired fasting glucose in [these children] is worrying, considering the increasing prevalence worldwide of type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents”, said Dr Joana Kist-van Holthe from the university, where the research took place.

There is need to extend the research further so that a lot more is able to made known about the underlying theory so that obese children are being taken care of well before it’s too late.
