Testosterone Links with Cancer

Testosterone Links with Cancer

A new study from Australian researchers has put all the men reporting higher testosterone levels at higher risks of suffering from cancers in their older life.

In their recent findings, the researchers have clearly shown chances of developing prostate cancer or lung cancer in men, who have their testosterone levels naturally high.

The above findings of the Australian study have directly questioned the common practice of hormone supplementation today that is being adopted by a majority of men in an effort to gain them higher energy levels, higher muscle mass and sexual potency too.

During the Perth research, researchers thoroughly studied the medical records of men more than 70 years age for a decade. They found that most of the men diagnosed with prostate cancer have reported average level of testosterone in their bloodstream. The circulation levels were almost 290 picomoles per litre of blood, whereas 277 was the figure noticed in the men, who were not suffering from the disease.

Lung cancer sufferers had the free testosterone levels (i. e. the proportion that is biologically active) at approx 317 picomoles per litre as compared to the ones, who didn’t have the disease and reported 278 picomoles per litre.

The study was led by Mr. Zoe Hyde, from the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research. ''While some men can benefit from testosterone therapy, we still don't fully understand all of the benefits and risks of treatment'', Dr. Hyde said.
